This photo is of the last known thylacine, nicknamed “Benjamin”, that had previously spent three years in captivity at Tasmania’s Hobart Zoo. On September 7th, 1936 the world was devastated to have heard the last animal in the species was lost dying from exposure to disease within the zoo. Unfortunately, many factors such as habitat destruction, and excessive hunting led to the rapid extinction of the species.
