Are you a fan of the hit History Channel series The Curse of Oak Island? The series has amassed a huge fanbase spanning various countries and just wrapped up its tenth season earlier this year. The series follows the Lagina brothers, Rick and Marty, as they explore an island off the coast of Nova Scotia. Oak Island is small, spanning only one mile long and one thousand feet wide, yet it’s been the site of the world’s longest and most expensive treasure hunt in history. The Lagina brothers spent their childhoods fascinated with treasure hunts, so it was only natural that they would transition to taking on this beast in adulthood. Throughout the decade they’ve spent searching Oak Island, they’ve made some impressive discoveries and answered questions that many failed to answer in the past. Whether you’re a fan of mysteries, treasure hunts, or brothers working together toward a common goal, you’ll find something you love in the story of the Lagina brothers and Oak Island. Let’s take a look at some of their journey from curious kids to successful treasure hunters.

Why Oak Island?
Even as children, Rick and Marty were obsessed with discovering hidden treasures. They were always searching for the unexpected and had success at an early age. When Ricky was only ten years old, he discovered a massive granite rock in his hometown of Kingsford. One year later, Ricky was enjoying his weekly visit to the library when he read the January 1965 edition of Reader’s Digest. He discovered an article about Oak Island, which detailed the legend of the treasure allegedly buried there. Once Rick read about the supposed Money Pit, he was hooked and knew he had to visit Oak Island one day. Marty was a bit more skeptical about the promise of a hidden treasure on this tiny island, but he was determined to support his brother’s goal and agreed to go with him.
