FedEx decided to capitalize on the usefulness of negative space when they designed their company’s logo. When looking between the E and the X, you can clearly see an arrow pointing forward or right. This arrow is said to represent speed and accuracy, which is a necessity for a courier company like FedEx. While the company was established in 1971, they didn’t begin using this logo until 1996.

An Ingenious Example of Negative Space

Now that we’ve discussed negative space, it’s time to give an ingenious example of how a company can use this to its full advantage. The Pittsburg Zoo logo is a true work of art. It uses simple colors and shapes to create a depiction of what you can expect when you visit the zoo. Along with the obvious tree, birds, and fish, there’s more to see in this picture. Have you ever noticed the negative space on either side of the tree? If you look carefully, it appears to be a gorilla and a lion staring each other down! He’s clearly unaware of the forest creature hanging out just above his head. The squirrel seems pretty smart to stay hidden in plain sight until the dog goes back inside!

Toddlers can be sneaky, and they love to use their creativity during play. Parents have to have eyes in the back of their heads to keep track of their important items when there’s a mischievous toddler running around. The person who took this picture spent the morning desperately searching for his car keys, only to find they were in the ignition the whole time! However, they were in the ignition of his toddler’s car rather than the parent’s car. This is another example of the joys of parenthood! Always keep your keys out of your kids’ reach!

Everyone knows that when you hide behind an object, you essentially disappear from sight! However, the object you’re hiding behind has to be large enough to completely block you from sight. The UPS worker in this picture decided to move a potted cactus to “hide” the two large packages he just dropped off. We give him an A for effort but an F for execution. The cactus clearly doesn’t hide those packages, but maybe it would give a potential thief pause.

It’s pretty crazy to think about how long this ball has been hiding within the other ball without anyone noticing. It also makes us wonder if this is an isolated incident. Or has every pool ball we’ve ever seen had a second ball hiding inside it? It’s a little scary to think about!

Some car owners are very intense about their cars. They want to keep their cars in pristine condition at all times, and you can’t blame them for wanting a super safe spot to park their cars. This garage is pretty unusual. It looks as though the roof actually comes down flush against the ground, leaving it completely hidden when it’s not in use. When it is in use, you can see the car inside the garage, but it’s still well protected from the elements. The only question is- how do you drive the car in and out of that garage?
