37. Create your own smoke and steam patterns by swirling the air around with a fan or even your hands!
There are many possibilities with creating images using smoke or steam. Cooking provides an endless stream of opportunities, from coffee and other hot beverages to fresh meals out of the oven, to just creating smoke with incense or candles! If the kitchen is too hot, head to the bathroom for a steamy shower – droplets on the shower door with a steamy background may make for a more interesting photo than you realize! Just make sure you are working with a clean surface, no matter what you choose as your realm.

To best capture the smoke or steam on camera, you’ll want to use a strong neutral light from the side – top lighting will not work in this case! Think about which colors to use in your photos – do you want a dark, moody photo or a bright, colorful photo? Also, put some thought into which props you want to use in the shot. Don’t forget to use a fan if you need to capture steam or smoke movement! If you have old windows, glass or mirrors laying around, you can make some pretty cool images!
