29. The Secret Club That Lets You Fly First Class For Life
Very few people have had the privilege of flying first class even once in their life. But it’s pretty obvious that the rich and famous get to enjoy it on a regular basis. However, did you know that for a few decades, there was a secret club that allowed you to fly first class for the rest of your life? This was a membership run by American Airlines called The AAirPass. Back in the 1980’s, it only cost $250,000 for a lifetime membership to fly unlimited first class flights for free. Nowadays, that seems like a bargain, because the price has jumped up to $3 million in 2004. Since then, the AAirPass has been discontinued. However, that doesn’t mean programs like this don’t still exist.
If you’re an elite frequent flyer, you can often achieve a status with any airline that will almost guarantee you get free first class upgrades. So technically, it’s not free. But you might pay for a coach seat for a few hundred dollars, and be seated somewhere that normally costs thousands of dollars. If you want to learn more about this world, it’s a rabbit hole of information. I recommend checking out The Points Guy to know more.
