A dreamy pink Malibu Dreamhouse is listed as available for rent as a way to commemorate the doll’s landmark anniversary. For just $60, you and four friends can spend the night living like a multi-hyphenate blonde with all the amenities you would expect her to enjoy.

The oceanside mansion is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom that is packed with luxurious decor, with many of them in pink, of course. This Dreamhouse has everything you can dream about and more. Check out the lavish details and consider a vacation that most little girls have dreamed about.

Not Just A Doll

One of the most top-selling toys of all time is the Barbie doll. American businesswoman Ruth Handler created the Barbie doll and named her after her daughter Barbara. The toy became an international sensation, and it was inspired by a German doll called Bild Lilli. She wanted children to have a lifelike figure for their play. The Barbie doll also is a fashion doll that is manufactured by the American toy company Mattel Inc.

As the figurehead for the doll brand, Barbie is known for her lavish lifestyle and various career opportunities. According to Mattel, Barbie has had over 200 inspirational careers with more STEM-related jobs in recent years. Her very first career was a teen fashion model.

No job that Barbie has ever had or job she has ever held is more iconic than the Barbie Dreamhouse. It continues to be a hot-selling toy every holiday season. The NPD Group says it is the fourth fastest-selling toy. Did you know that the original Barbie Dreamhouse was made with cardboard and paper in 1962?

Children could fold it up and carry it with them everywhere they went. The make-believe mansion went through many transformations over the years as it became a multi-storied structure suitable for hours of play.

The 60th Anniversary

To commemorate Barbie’s 60th anniversary, Mattel rolled a series of special events throughout 2019. Special dolls were marketed and distributed to mark the occasion. A film director Barbie was voted in a poll, and the new doll will hit Target stores in 2020 to commemorate the milestone celebration.

Airbnb put up the listing, going all out in its promotion and citing Barbie as a verified host. The life-size, brick-and-mortar Dreamhouse overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and it includes tons of perks for Barbie and Barbie fans to enjoy. Guests were able to stay at the mansion during specific dates in October for $60 per night in the two-bedroom, two-bathroom home that is packed to the brim with all the extras that they could enjoy.

Pampered Barbie Style

Those who booked a stay at the Barbie Dreamhouse Airbnb experience were able to find out how Barbie lives in style. Guests were able to participate in a meet-and-greet with hairstylist Jen Atkin and receive a makeover from Mane Addicts Creator Collective.

Because Barbie is a jane of all trades, the experience included opportunities to try new things. The extras were a one-on-one fencing lesson with Olympic fencing medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad, a cooking lesson with Gina Clarke-Hehm of Malibu Seaside Chef; and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Columbia Memorial Space Center with Jill Meyers, who works as both a pilot and engineer.

Ibtihaj Muhammad

One of the special guests at the Dreamhouse is Ibtihaj Muhammad. She is an American sabre fencer and a member of the United States fencing team. She has been noted as the first Muslim American woman who wore a hijab while she competed for the US in the Olympics.

During the 2016 Olympics, Muhammad won the first qualifying round. She ended up earning the bronze medal as part of Team USA. “Fencing has taught me so much about myself and what I am capable of. I want to be an example for minority and Muslim youth that anything is possible with perseverance. I want them to know that nothing should ever hinder them from achieving their goals—not race, religion, or gender,” Muhammad said in 2011.

A Historic Barbie

Ibtihaj Muhammad made history again in 2017 when Mattel introduced a Barbie in a hijab. The first fencing doll was rolled out, and the toy was modeled after Muhammad.

The company said the creation of the hijab Barbie was vital because it reinforces the belief that young girls and boys should be able to see themselves in the toys they play with. Studies show that when children can see themselves in the toys that they play with, they have more confidence and higher levels of self-esteem.

Jen Atkin

Jen Atkin is a hairstylist who has made over some of the most famous celebrities in the world. She is the owner of the OUAI hair care line, and she also founded the digital magazine ManeAddicts. She writes a column for Glamour Magazine.

Atkin began her career in Hollywood. Some of her clients have included Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, and Jessica Alba. She has been called “The Most Influential Hairstylist in the World” by the New York Times, an incredible compliment that has helped her build her business empire on assisting women to feel better about themselves.

Atkin is a believer in helping her clients feel empowered by their looks. She says that kind of confidence can help women in other aspects of their life. “You’re always just one decision away from a completely different life,” Atkin says on her ManeAddicts site.

Variety of Cuisines

Guests at the Dreamhouse are also given the opportunity to cook with a renowned chef. The native Californian used to be a professional model, and while she was traveling all over the world, she got to try many different kinds of cuisines. She decided to bring those flavors to her favorite seaside dishes.

Clarke-Helm has built a pretty impressive culinary resume. She attended the French Epicurean School in Los Angeles and took specialty courses with Biuliano Bugialli. She also worked at Wolfgang Puck’s celebrity restaurant in Malibu.

The Columbia Memorial Space Center is a science museum that is both owned and operated by the City of Downey in California. It features hands-on activities and other special exhibits for the Los Angeles area.

Plenty of Pink

Step inside the Barbie Dreamhouse, and it should come as no surprise that many of the added details in the Barbie Dreamhouse rental feature the iconic blonde’s favorite color. Airbnb said the home is a “larger-than-life recreation of Barbie’s signature style and hospitality.”

Staying at the Dreamhouse is not only a dream come true, but it also helped fund the possibility of other goals to come to fruition. Proceeds from the vacation stay will go toward a good cause. The idea for this philanthropic work was created to help girls reach their full potential and unlock their dreams so that they could come true.

Research has shown that many girls begin developing thoughts of self-denial and limiting beliefs as young as five years old. This is referred to as the Dream Gap, and organizers want girls of all ages to believe in empowerment and that they can do anything.

What Barbie Can Do

Since the Barbie brand is internationally recognized, the Dream Gap plans to use the global platform and its resources to reach girls at a pivotal age and help them believe in themselves.

Barbie established the Dream Gap Project Fund in March 2019 with $250,000 in an effort to close the Dream Gap. This fall, the corporation donated the money to three organizations that are working to change the lives of girls all over the world.

One of the first organizations that will benefit from the new Barbie initiative is She’s The First. This organization aims to help girls around the world who are denied an education.

The group is comprised of ambitious students, educators, artists, and policymakers who are dedicated to funding 300 girls in various countries to receive equal opportunities in the classroom. The countries involved include Peru, Nepal, India, Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Ethiopia.

A Better Education

The purpose of She’s The First is to inspire more than 1,000 girls ages 5 to 11 years old to dream big with a curriculum and funding for programs, workshops, and demonstrations to encourage them to pursue futures beyond previous conceptions of becoming mothers, wives, or primary school teachers.

The project has raised more than $150,000 to date. According to She’s The First website, the mission is to not “stop fighting until every girl chooses her own future.”

Another organization to benefit from the Barbie initiative is She Should Run, a group that looks to encourage girls to consider careers in civic service and government. The nonpartisan nonprofit promotes women’s leadership to close the politician’s ambition gap. It inspires multi-generational conversations between girls and their caregivers so that the youth may see themselves serving their communities.

Political Goals

Funds raised for the She Should Run Campaign are used to build a curriculum that is designed for adults to talk about and practice activities with girls. The enrichment goals include helping girls explore their interest and curiosity in politics.

She Should also aims to help 2,500 girls between 5 and 12 years old develop skills to take risks, overcome fear, and have self-confidence. Girls are also encouraged to discover their inner leadership qualities and how to lead in their lives proactively. More than $50,000 has been raised to date.

Step Up

The final organization to benefit from the Barbie initiative is Step Up. It is a multi-generational approach to creating role models in hopes of encouraging young girls to become “confident, college-bound, career-focused, and ready to join the next generation of professional women.”

Step Up looks to host four “I Dream To…” Mentorship Conferences around the country. The sessions will pair mentors with teenage girls during the morning session. At the same time, the afternoon will be dedicated to allowing the teens to help elementary school-age girls at the conference.
