A Punch in the Sky
This crazy meteorological phenomenon creates a huge circular hole in the clouds, also called a fall streak hole, punch hole cloud, skypunch, or cloud hole. Here’s the kicker – it happens when the temperature in the clouds is below freezing, but there’s not enough ice for it to freeze yet. Then, when ice crystals do form, it sets off a chain reaction known as the Bergeon process, which causes the water droplets around the crystals to vanish into thin air and leaves only that insane-looking hole behind. It’s like nature is flexing its muscles and showing us just how powerful and beautiful it can be.
