Not All White Rice Is the Same – Know Which One To Use
When I was younger, I used to think that all rice was instant, but boy, was I wrong. As a grown-up and cooking enthusiast, I’ve come to realize that there are actually a ton of different types of white rice out there, and each one has its own unique personality. Short-grain rice, for example, is the life of the party when it comes to risotto and the traditional Cuban dessert “arroz con leche“. It’s creamy, comforting and perfect for those chilly evenings. Then there’s long-grain rice, the strong and silent type, perfect for hearty dishes like gumbo or red beans and andouille sausage. It’s a real backbone, holding everything together. And last but not least, extra-long grain Jasmine rice, the fancy one, that can take your meals to the next level. It’s the one you want to invite to your fancy dinner parties, it will add aroma, nuttiness and is great for low and slow-cooking roasting dishes, stir-fries and even as a great side to a juicy T-bone steak.
