Finland
It’s tough learning in school. Kids have so much energy, and getting them to sit down and stay still for seven hours of the day is Mission Impossible. Finland found a way to fix that problem, and that’s by giving their young students frequent, 15-minute breaks throughout the day. They use it like a game, for every 45 minutes they work, they get 15 minutes of playtime. This is a fantastic way to get rid of excess energy, so the kids have better focus afterwards. In the home, raising children falls on both the mother and the father. The burden doesn’t solely fall on the mother.
Children are also encouraged to think independently. Finland is one of the only countries in the world where dads spend more time with their kids than mothers do. They get free healthcare, mothers enjoy lengthy maternity leaves, and fathers spend around eight minutes more than mothers with their kids per day. Annika Saarikko, Finland’s minister of family affairs, said, “This is a question of gender equality, but it’s more a question of the rights of the child. This is not about the mother’s right or the father’s right – but the child’s right to spend time with both parents.” Fathers also receive paid paternity leave. This is a country that many of us could look up to when it comes to raising a child (The Guardian).
